Two smart things Healthy Choice did here:
1. Used blogger outreach to drive traffic to its Facebook Page.
2. Had a "What's In It For Me" incentive: Like our Page to get a coupon.
3. Increased the value of the coupon as more people "Liked" the Page. I think this was absolutely BRILLIANT!
Whereas Groupon merely activates a deal once enough people have bought it -- a weak incentive for social sharing -- Healthy Choice gave a BIG incentive for customers to share with friends. Imagine how effective this technique would be on a big ticket purchase... 2. Healthy Choice: Pairing a social coupon with blogger outreach |
In a bid to grow its Facebook fan base, increase engagement and reinforce the brand’s reputation for value, Healthy Choice launched a coupon on its Facebook page. The value of the coupon increased as more people ‘liked’ the page, ultimately becoming a ‘buy-one-get-one-free’ deal. Facebook marketing was supported with blogger outreach, inviting relevant bloggers to purchase a Facebook ad and drive their audience to ‘like’ Healthy Choice and sign up for a coupon. An innovative, two-pronged online PR strategy got results: the Healthy Choice Facebook page grew from 6,800 to nearly 60,000 fans, while more than 50,000 ‘BOGOF’ coupons were snapped up. Tropical Foods Garden Chips |
You know when you bring food to an office and walk around the jail cells cubicles offering it up to people and everyone gets all awkward like you’re presenting a plate of Anthrax? “No, no thank you. I’m on a diet,” they say. But then you set the plate in the kitchen and it’s magically GONE in, like, five minutes? |
Well, my coworkers at lululemon are not like that. No matter what I bring in–be it brownies or cookies or even these vegetables–they’re on me like frat boys on a keg the second I walk in the door. “What’d you bring? Is it vegan? Can I have six, please?” This is why I like these people. |
So last week Charlotte-based Tropical Foods sent me some of their York’s Harvest Garden Chips, and by “some of” I mean six boxes. Naturally, I took the surplus to work and it was G-O-N-E before my shift was over. |
Assorted, green bean and okra |
I was a big fan of the assorted mix–sweet potato, okra, green bean, squash and taro root. Hello, sweet potatoes… duh. And taro root is only the greatest frozen yogurt flavor to grace the Earth. Turns out it’s a good chip, too. The okra I’m not so sure about but something tells me the next time Bachelor Pad is on and I need something to get me through THREE HOURS of reality TV, that box of okra and I are going to be good friends. |
You can find Garden Chips locally here in Charlotte at Healthy Home Market and Lowes Foods, or you can order them online here. |
Picnic in the Penthouse + #giveaway

My belly was still obsessing over the thought of chips and dip when I came home from work yesterday and was greeted by a large box of York’s Harvest Garden Chips from Charlotte-based Tropical Foods! |
First off, coming home to a package of goodies to sample has to be THE BEST welcome home present EVER. I immediately tore into the package to check out the Garden Chips. |
The chips are made from real vegetables (awesome), and they are completely natural, completely crunchy, and completely addicting |
I was sent a few different varieties to try, including Okra, Green Beans, and the Mixed Vegetable chips (sweet potato, taro root, squash, carrots, and green beans). After trying each and every vegetable chip variety, I decided the carrots and the green beans are my fav |
Have you guys tried these veggie chips yet? |
More importantly, do you want to try them *for free*?! We all know I love freebies. I have no shame |

I love a lot of things (I have plenty of love to go around), but here are four of my most recent finds that I’m loving right now. |
#2 Tropical Foods’ Garden Chips |
Have you ever tried vegetable or garden chips? I’ve been purchasing them out of the bulk bins of some of the healthier grocery stores for years. Tropical Foods recently sent me some to sample and I had to all but lock them up to keep from eating them over the course of a few days. |
Putting them on top of the fridge and out of my eye sight helped, but I still love reaching my hand in for a few crunchy bites every now and then. Even those these chips are made with vegetables, they get their crunch from oil, so practicing a bit of restraint is necessary. |
My favorite are the mixed vegetables (top) which are salty sweet because they contain sweet potatoes among other delicious veggies. I really like the green beans (middle) and okra (bottom) too. Tropical Foods offers different varieties based on what’s season, which I think is pretty cool. Here’s a list of retailers where you can find Garden Chips. Tropical Foods is based out of Charlotte but they sell good all over the Southeast and even the Midwest. Read more at foodiefresh.com |
Relevant stuff.
The power of social media isn't just in building another list. After all, a Facebook fan or Twitter follower is essentially the same as a name in your email database. No, the true power of social is peer-to-peer influence -- the ability of those ON your list to sway their friends who are NOT on your list.
This is why blogger outreach (or influencer outreach, if you prefer) is so important.
To Spread Your Brand On Facebook, Don't Target Your Fans--Target Their Friends
|
A meager 16% of company messages reach users in a given week, largely because the Facebook newsfeed usually only displays popular posts and few fans go to the brand's page on a regular basis. |
The solution is to reach friends of fans through messages that are shareable, and promotions that require voting, checking in, or other interactivity.

Facebook is rolling out its facial recognition technology as a default setting. This means your friends will more easily be able to tag you in photos.
Want to turn off the facial recognition feature so Facebook doesn't suggest you when friends are tagging? Here's how. If you don’t want Facebook to suggest you when your friends go to tag everyone in that picture from last week’s naked mud-wrestling pool party, here’s how you disable the feature: - Go to your privacy settings.
- Click “Customize settings.”
- Scroll down to “Things others share.”
- Find “Suggest photos of me to friends.”
- Edit accordingly.
